OUR STORY

OUR STORY

At Red Bank Cider we're passionate about capturing the natural goodness of freshly pressed English apples to create mouth watering cider!

The idea for Red Bank Cider came in 2012. We discovered real cider and as we fancied a change, took a leap launching in 2013 as Bolton and Bury's 1st Cider Producer. It was a big challenge as many people, and a surprising number of bars and restaurants don't realise they're missing out on a lovely English drink!

Our vision is that everyone deserves a decent pint, but often there's a long way to go to find one! We also wanted a genuinely "green" or circular economy business with a culture of natural sustainability at its heart. Unlike brewing beer or distilation, cider making has the advantage that it does not require high temperatures or large amounts of electricity. Red Bank Cider aims to be a business that gives more than it takes from our natural eco-systems.

In this belief, lies our mission....

We put our heart and soul in to making the best ciders and perries you can find. To us, a decent pint is one which is crafted as naturally as possible with freshly pressed whole fruit, fermented and matured for at least 9 months, with no added colours or artificial sweeteners!

Our passion for capturing all the natural goodness of English apples creates the mouth watering cider that our customers enjoy. So that's the "why" and "how" we came about, and we hope you'll join us in our mission to help spread the word about real cider!

Visit us, give real cider a try, and see how good Red Bank Cider tastes compared with manufactured drinks! If you can't get down - try a Fantastic Mixed Case Reserve! It's a great mix of most of our ciders and perries in one case - like a mini cider festival.

Thank you for supporting a small business!

Off the usual beaten track!

Off the usual beaten track!

Red Bank Cider is off the usual beaten track for English cider and located near the southern point of Lancashires West Pennine Moors, on the Bury and Bolton border. Our name - Red Bank is derived from one of the oldest dwellings in the area, built around 1803, with views across the countryside of Bolton, Bury, Manchester and historic Lancashire.

Where do our apples come from?

As most of the 'cider' you'll see is produced from highly processed concentrates it's reassuring to know that Red Bank Cider real ciders and perries are crafted from freshly pressed English apples and pears, grown in orchards around Worcester and Hereford, and taken to our giant press - located just below the Malvern Hills - where the fruit is 'cold pressed' ensuring that the nutrients, vitamins and minerals from each freshly apple are captured!

We're a family business, launched 21st June 2013 at one of the largest cider festivals in the North UK - CAMRA's Greater Manchester Cider Festival - where our "Proper Cider" was voted "Cider of the Festival" against 70 Ciders & Perries from around England and Wales.

When it comes to traditional cider - English cider is undoubtedly some of the best in the world (we're always looking for the best though see our Blog)

Our apples and fruit are sourced from sunny Herefordshire and Worcestershire (near the Malvern HIlls) from some well established English cider apple orchards and best growers we can find.

We then craft the cider at our premises over a period of 9 months, and then we let it mature - like a fine wine!

Red Bank Cider often makes it way around the UK and globally as far as Greece and Canada, so where ever you are, you can order online or email us and we'll get some to you!

Hot on the trail to answer the question of "What is Real Cider?"

In Liz's 2nd of her 3 interesting tales about traditional cider, she writes about one of the UKs more northern cider makers - Red Bank Cider!

Liz Smith has toured home producers of West Yorkshire, to a sleepy Berkshire hamlet, between Reading and Newbury (where the producer Tutts Clump was inspired to make real cider following a visit to the Dorset Steam Fair, with cider apples souced from the traditional cider growig Counties of Gloucester, Oxfordshire, Somerset and Kent.
